Estonian Association of Information Technology and Telecommunications (officially abbreviated as ITL) is a voluntary organisation, whose primary objective is to unite the Estonian information technology and telecommunications companies, to promote their co-operation in Estonia's development towards information society, to represent and protect the interests of its member companies and to express their common positions.
Main activities of the association include popularisation of information and communication technology (ICT), promotion of vocational education and amendment of legislation.
The year 1998 stands for the beginning of the negotiations between information technology and telecommunication companies to find a new form of co-operation between the sectors.
In the course of comprehensive bilateral dialogues a general meeting was called on 23 March 2000, where the Estonian Computer Association (AFA, founded in 1992) and the Association of Telecommunications Companies (TEL, founded in 2000) merged into the Association of Estonian Information Technology and Telecommunications Companies.
40 members participated in the foundation of the organisation.
Relevant entry resolution was made by the Registry Department of Tallinn City Court on 31 May 2000, the official abbreviated name of the new organisation is ITL.
The general meeting approved the new Articles of Association, adopted its Code of Ethics as well as elected the Board and the Court of Honour.
